Introduction
Well 2025 is off to an excellent start! I kicked off the new year with a sunrise walk up Snowdon via the Pyg Track, after a cozy night at the Pen y Pass hostel.
The Plan
I’d planned for the first day of the year, however, the weather wasn’t on my side so the second was a safer option.
The Execution
Thankfully, the forecasts were accurate and it was a beautiful day for it; crisp, clear and chilly enough to make every breath feel fresh.
I was armed with plenty of layers, food and my trusty micro-spikes; the Pyg being notorious for ice so having the spikes was a must.

The panorama unfolded; rugged peaks, potential cloud inversions1, valleys bathed in orange light, and the vast expanse of Wales stretching out before me.
Quieter than normal, but still busy when compared to other summits, Snowdon was resplendent and calm.

With there being a number of fatalities in the Lake District already this year, I’d be reckless and naive to not mention that these walks can be dangerous in winter and the best laid plans, can often go awry.
