# The Pennine Way (2022) I still remember the day I set out on my first thru-hike of The Pennine Way, a 268 mile national trail and the oldest in the UK. It was 2022 and I had been itching to get out into the wilderness ever since I decided to do the walk. Little did I know, it would be an experience that would change me forever. ![[Thru-Hikes/The Pennine Way (2022)/IMG_0339.jpg|w50]] ## The Weight of Preparation I packed my fears – or rather, I was over-prepared – with far too much food. The weight of all those provisions resulted in a recurring knee injury that'd plagued me throughout the hike. It was a harsh reminder that sometimes, less is more. ## Meeting Fellow Travellers Along the way, I met some incredible hikers who would become like family to me. Alex, Nadti, and Conor were just a few of them and they helped make my journey unforgettable. We shared laughter, stories, and supported each other through tough times. The pain in my knee when walking from Hebden Bridge to Ponden Mill was a particularly low point. But on the other hand, there were moments of pure magic, like the day walking from Middleton-in-Teesdale where you visit High Cup Nick; it's a sight that I still can't put into words! ![[Thru-Hikes/The Pennine Way (2022)/IMG_0332.jpg|w50]] ## Reflections The Pennine Way thru-hike was more than just a test of endurance; it was a journey of self-discovery. It forced me out of my comfort zone, helping me break down barriers I had built up over the years. The experience taught me to appreciate the beauty of simplicity and to trust myself. If you're considering taking on a thru-hike or simply want to challenge yourself, you should go for it!
