# A Quick Refresher (48 Hours on The Pennine Way) That yearning for the outdoors just wouldn't leave me last week, so I dived at an opportunity and booked a short-notice day off work on Friday; with sunny skies and high pressure forecast, it was the perfect opportunity to get some miles in. In 2022 I hiked along [[Thru-Hikes/The Pennine Way (2022)|The Pennine Way (2022)]] from Edale to Hebden Bridge in three days; being the first days carrying the weight, I remember it being an absolute schlep! With just a few days, that walk fit the bill perfectly with its easy-access to trains. ## The Journey | ![[Thru-Hikes/A Quick Refresher (48 Hours on The Pennine Way)/IMG_1436.jpg]] | ![[Thru-Hikes/A Quick Refresher (48 Hours on The Pennine Way)/IMG_1438.jpg]] | | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- | I set off chipper on the Friday morning, after a great evening, and a satisfying breakfast (with the - to die for - filter coffee) and plodded slowly, until I reached Laddow Rocks in the evening. A cold night ensued, wrapped up in most of the layers I had to spare, it's amazing the swings in temperature between a beautiful spring day and the - almost bitter - nights; I even struggled to pack away the frosted fly sheet, in the morning! | ![[Thru-Hikes/A Quick Refresher (48 Hours on The Pennine Way)/IMG_1445.jpg]] | ![[Thru-Hikes/A Quick Refresher (48 Hours on The Pennine Way)/IMG_1455.jpg]] | | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Setting off, with the fly sheet shoddily strapped to the back of my bag, I started off up Black Hill, hoping to warm myself up along the way; with the wind being barely a wisp that wasn't a trouble at all. The chance to pace myself from sunrise - taking plenty of breaks, the first at Nicky's FoodBar for a cracking breakfast and then The White House for a drink - meant I was able to keep going all day, hopping on the train at Hebden Bridge with just minutes to spare! ![[Thru-Hikes/A Quick Refresher (48 Hours on The Pennine Way)/IMG_1468.jpg|w50]] I'd set out to match my last walk, doing three days but this time around, I'd managed to squeeze it into just two, the slow pace, and constant fuelling (food) meant I could just bimble, all day long. ## Itinerary ```mermaid timeline Title Timeline Day 1 : Edale (YHA) : Laddow Rocks (Wild Camp) Day 2 : Laddow Rocks (Wild Camp) : Hebden Bridge (Station) ``` ## Summary The trip wasn't just about the mileage though; it was the chance to test out some new gear, refine my packing and iron out any kinks before I set out for LEJOG next month. Let me tell you, it was worth it; it's amazing the things you can forget! The scenery along this stretch from Edale to Hebden Bridge, was absolutely breathtaking, the rolling moorland of the Peak District never fails to improve my mood, clear my mind and left me feeling more motivated for my walks to come!
