# Sunrise Snowdon (2025) Well 2025 is off to an excellent start! I kicked off the new year with a sunrise walk up Snowdon via the Pyg Track, after a cozy night at the Pen y Pass hostel. I'd planned for the first day of the year, however, the weather wasn't on my side so the second was a safer option. | ![[Hiking/Sunrise Snowdon (2025)/IMG_1208.JPG]] | ![[Hiking/Sunrise Snowdon (2025)/IMG_1226.JPG]] | | ----------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------- | Thankfully, the forecasts were accurate and it was a beautiful day for it; crisp, clear and chilly enough to make every breath feel fresh. I was armed with plenty of layers, food and my trusty micro-spikes; the Pyg being notorious for ice so having the spikes was a must. | ![[Hiking/Sunrise Snowdon (2025)/IMG_1211.JPG]] | ![[Hiking/Sunrise Snowdon (2025)/IMG_1214.JPG]] | ![[Hiking/Sunrise Snowdon (2025)/IMG_1220.JPG]] | | ----------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------- | The panorama unfolded; rugged peaks, potential cloud inversions[^1], valleys bathed in orange light, and the vast expanse of Wales stretching out before me. [^1]: Which unfortunately didn't materialise. Quieter than normal, but still busy when compared to other summits, Snowdon was resplendent and calm. ## Acknowledgement > Whatever can happen at any time can happen today. \- Seneca With there being a number of fatalities in the Lake District already this year, I'd be reckless and naive to not mention that these walks can be dangerous in winter and the best laid plans, can often go awry. # References - [Man dies in 590ft Lake District fell fall](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cp31x9dkyv2o) - [Man dies in Lake District ridge fall](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c1el5yn261go)
