# Planning (The Death of Fun)
A meticulously crafted itinerary, pre-determined destinations, planned breaks, that's not for me, while some people strive to hike with structure and predictability, I find joy in the unexpected; the "unplanned chaos".
I still go prepared, my bag is always packed with the essentials: extra layers, water-proofs, water filter, personal locator beacon and a first aid. The preparation is still key, it's about being ready for the unexpected, so you can embrace it when it arrives.
The beauty of "unplanned chaos" lies in the unknown. Sudden detours for breathtaking views, even if that means going in the wrong direction (or because you already were). The unexpected meetings along the route that turn into interesting conversations; condensed friendships.
The key is to stay present[^1], to be open to anything that comes your way. To not let a missed turn or unexpected obstacle ruin the journey. Instead, embrace it as an opportunity for adventure, for learning, and for truly connecting with the world around you, on its own terms.
[^1]: Which is why I don't often take pictures when out hiking.
Pack your bag sensibly, ditch the itinerary, and be prepared to get lost, because sometimes the most rewarding journeys are the ones you don’t expect. They are the moments that turn an ordinary hike into an unforgettable story.
